The present study aimed to determine changes in zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) concentrations in pregnant women during pregnancy and to examine the relationship between these elements and the effects of pregnancy on their elevation or decrease. Serum samples were collected from 20 pregnant women attending medical clinics in Najaf Governorate and 20 non-pregnant women. Serum levels of selected minerals were assessed using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Concentrations varied between pregnant and non-pregnant women. Twenty samples of breast milk were also taken from newborn mothers, and zinc and copper concentrations were compared with normal levels. The difference between serum and milk concentrations was observed, with lower serum zinc and copper levels (r = 0.26, p = 0.01). In conclusion, serum concentrations of trace elements changed during pregnancy. Evaluation of zinc and copper levels in breast milk of newborn women.
